The response was overwhelming. More than 2,200 submissions were received from 696 photographers in the categories of Landscape, People and Festivities. The panel of distinguished judges, including National Geographic Magazine Photo Editor Kim Hubbard, Washingtonian Magazine Photo Editor David Hicks and Jayme McLellan, Founding Director of Civilian Art Projects, which is an art gallery located in Washington,DC, were amazed by the quality, as were the organizers. "The entries came in all flavors--photography that had been captured on everything from high-end SLR cameras to low-end mobile phones—and from all walks of life. This contest was open to everyone, from seasoned professional photographers to tourists in town taking in the beauty of the cherry blossoms for the first time. And that's the great thing about FotoDC--there is surprising talent out there and we're all about discovering and sharing these hidden gems through special events throughout the year", said FotoDC Executive Board Member and Contest Chair Pam Huling.
